Heritage Sunday
September 12, 2010
The second week of September, 1877, marked the official start of First Mennonite church
in Beatrice.  Now, one hundred and thirty three years later, it
was high time for a
celebration! Mark Jantzen, history professor at Bethel College,
gave the sermon at the
worship service on September 12 titled "Separating Heritage from Tradition". Following a
noon meal,
Marj Shoemaker of the Mennonite Heritage Museum gave a short program on
Mennonite history in this area of the country.

God has richly blessed the fellowship that started with thirty four families from Prussia,
and which now incorporates families from all sorts of backgrounds. By the same token,
people with ties to the congregation have spread all over the country (and, in fact the
world!).
If you would like to share your memories or thoughts on your history with our
congregation, please contact us.

Thank you to all who shared in our worship and celebration. We enjoyed having you and
hope to see you again soon.
